Ron Daugherty built a global consulting firm (Daugherty Business Solutions) that helped Fortune 500 companies solve their toughest challenges, with annual revenue of over $300 million. In December of 2024 Ron partnered with CGI to merge CGI & Daugherty Business Solutions, in order to achieve an outcome of doing even more for clients, consultants, and community. Now, he's bringing that same innovation to philanthropy. With Daugherty Foundation and Daugherty Enterprises, he's investing $30 million into leading technology that supports Alzheimer's care, mental health, and the future of St. Louis.
Alzheimer's
Alzheimer's is a large, global adversity, and it's growing larger by the day. There remains a 0% survivability rate, but treatments are advancing by the day.
Women
Women are disproportionately affected as both patients and caregivers, accounting for 70% of care hours.
55 million +
Over 55 million people in the world have dementia, and alzheimer's accounts for 60-70% of those cases.
Fighting Back
Medical treatments are being heavily researched, and activities like exercise, good nutrition, playing chess, or learning a new language each help significantly. The removal of environmental threats (i.e. mold) is also a traced factor.
What Leads to Alzheimer's?
Alzheimer's is traced genetic predictors (i.e. APOe4), hallmarks of evidence (i.e. tau proteins, amyloid beta), environmental contributors (some of which are accelerated) and more.
Though older age tends to correlate, symptoms can actually begin in the 20's & 30's.
But PTSD, depression, high-stress and other factors also contribute.
Yes, this means that being a caregiver (and all of that it entails) may actually increase risk of Alzheimer's.
